Project data is different from ordinary data; there is more qualitative data and fewer quantitative measures. Timelines are really important and there are many more dates; e.g. project and task start, and completion, milestone dates. This creates challenges in analysing the data. For example we often need to calculate what happens between two dates rather than on a date. What we measure is also different, capacity, availability and demand, as well as the traditional measures of revenue and cost.

Creating appealing visualisations is also a challenge, especially with the standard set of visuals that Power BI provides. We’ll look at how to meet these challenges in this talk. We’ll show examples in Power BI, Excel and R, but the principles are applicable to any analytics tool.
